One of the noticeable features of Conwy this summer has been the planters which have been provided by “Incredible Edible”. Incredible Edible is a movement all about food: growing and eating food in your local community. Inspired by Todmorden in Lancashire and all the other places who are part of the movement, the local volunteers are helping Conwy to become the first Incredible Edible place in Wales! Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to get involved and they aim to plant unused plots of land with herbs, fruit, vegetables and bee friendly flowers. We have certainly enjoyed the planters outside the Tourist information centre, the large planters just by the walls on the way to the quay and courgettes and tomatoes in St. Mary’s Churchyard.
Sam had a long chat with two of the volunteers and picked up a leaflets about their next project which is to be an “Incredible Edible Hedgerow” – to be planted in Llandudno Junction (Bryn Eglwys – off Victoria Drive” on Saturday 29th September from 10am – 2pm. Apparently the hedgerow is going to be full of fruit trees and bushes. There will also be plant seed giveaway. This is suitable for all ages.
A lovely idea for the same day may help those of you who have more apples in your garden than you know what to do with? The organisers are going to be pressing apple juice for people to try. There is nothing quite like freshly pressed apples…..very tempting to go along and help. Let’s hope that the 29th morning is dry and fine.
If you do have surplus apples but can’t pick them just make contact with Incredible Edible. (firstname.lastname@example.org). We will try and get some pictures of the hedgerow once it is planted.
