Select Committee election results. // Canlyniadau etholiadau'r Pwyllgor Dethol.

Guto has recently been appointed to the Welsh Affairs Committee, which is tasked with scrutinising and investigating Government policy under the remit of the Secretary of State for Wales. The committee also examines policy from other UK Government departments which may affect Wales, such as strategic transport, welfare or defence, which fall under the remit of the Department for Transport, Department of Work and Pensions and the Ministry of Defence respectively.

Yn ddiweddar, penodwyd Guto i'r Pwyllgor Materion Cymreig, sy’n craffu ar ac yn ymchwilio i bolisi'r Llywodraeth o dan gylch gorchwyl Ysgrifennydd Gwladol Cymru. Mae'r pwyllgor hefyd yn archwilio polisi gan adrannau eraill o Lywodraeth y Deyrnas Unedig a allai effeithio ar Gymru, fel trafnidiaeth strategol, lles neu amddiffyn, sy'n dod o dan gylch gorchwyl yr Adran Drafnidiaeth, yr Adran Gwaith a Phensiynau a'r Weinyddiaeth Amddiffyn yn y drefn honno.

UK’s National Audit Office on policing. // Y Swyddfa Archwilio Genedlaethol ar heddluoedd.

In 2015 UK Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee considered the financial sustainability of police forces throughout the UK, painting a concerning picture. At the time it found that the UK Government did not grasp the implications of budget reductions to front line police services. Since 2015 the National Audit Office have reviewed spending on police forces throughout England and Wales and have arrived at broadly the same conclusion.

Yn 2015 ystyriodd Pwyllgor Cyfrifon Cyhoeddus Senedd y DU gynaliadwyedd ariannol heddluoedd ledled y DU, gan dynnu darlun a oedd yn peri pryder. Ar y pryd, canfu nad oedd Llywodraeth y DU yn deall goblygiadau gostyngiadau yn y gyllideb i wasanaethau rheng flaen yr heddlu. Ers 2015, mae’r Swyddfa Archwilio Genedlaethol wedi adolygu gwariant ar heddluoedd ledled Cymru a Lloegr ac wedi dod, yn fras, i’r un casgliad.

New laws to tackle intimidation at elections. / Cyfreithiau newydd i fynd i’r afael ag ymddygiad bygythiol yn ystod etholiadau.

Over the last three years we’ve had five sets of elections in Aberconwy - five too many for most people!!   During that time you may have heard it reported that  the tone of political discussion has become a lot nastier and people taking part in the political process have been subjected to unacceptable behaviour - from candidates and their campaign teams to individuals turning up to vote at a polling station.   In our experience, we would say that some of this was true.  Certainly the level of abuse on social media platforms was unprecedented.

Politicians took this so seriously that they held a backbench debate about this subject early on in the new Parliament in 2017 and the Government has been persuaded that something needs to be done.  So far these are the ideas that they are working with.

Yn ystod y tair blynedd ddiwethaf, mae pum etholiad wedi cael ei gynnal yn Aberconwy – pump yn ormod i lawer o bobl!!   Yn ystod yr amser hwnnw, efallai eich bod wedi clywed bod tôn y drafodaeth wleidyddol wedi mynd yn llawer mwy cas a bod y bobl sy’n cymryd rhan yn y broses wleidyddol wedi wynebu ymddygiad annerbyniol – gan ymgeiswyr a thimau ymgyrchu, yn ogystal ag unigolion sy’n mynd i fwrw eu pleidiais mewn gorsaf bleidleisio.   O’n profiad ni, byddem yn dweud fod elfennau o hyn yn wir.  Yn sicr, doedd dim modd rhagweld lefel yr enllib ar gyfryngau cymdeithasol.

Fe wnaeth gwleidyddion gymryd hyn gymaint o ddifrif eu bod wedi cynnal dadl meinciau cefn ynghylch y pwnc yn ystod dyddiau cynnar y Senedd newydd yn 2017, ac mae'r Llywodraeth wedi cael ei darbwyllo bod angen gwneud rhywbeth.  Dyma’r syniadau sydd ganddyn nhw dan sylw ar hyn o bryd.

Women make impact on Parliament Square. / Merched yn gadael eu marc ar Sgwâr y Senedd.

What do US President, Abraham Lincoln, UK Prime Ministers Wintson Churchill, David Lloyd George and 3rd Viscount Palmerston as well as South African President Nelson Mandela all have in common? They’re remembered by statues in London’s Parliament Square, outside the Palace of Westminster and have been joined by suffragist leader Millicent Fawcett, who’s statue was unveiled yesterday.

Beth sydd gan Arlywydd UDA, Abraham Lincoln, Prif Weinidogion y DU, Winston Churchill a David Lloyd George, 3ydd Is-iarll Palmerston ac Arlywydd De Affrica, Nelson Mandela i gyd yn gyffredin? Mae cerfluniau i gofio am bob un ohonynt ar Sgwâr y Senedd yn Llundain, y tu allan i Balas Westminster a ddoe, ymunodd Millicent Fawcett, arweinydd y swffragetiaid, â nhw pan ddadorchuddiwyd ei cherflun.
