Do you know how much of an impact your local pub makes to our community? // Ydych chi’n gwybod faint o effaith mae eich tafarn leol yn ei chael ar ein cymuned?

Local pubs are often an integral part of the social fabric of our communities, however, not everyone knows how important they are to our local economy. Some research commissioned by the British Beer Pub Association estimated that there are 67 pubs in Aberconwy, together paying £14.4m of wages, £11.5m of tax to support public services and providing 964 jobs, of which almost half of those are filled by young people.

Mae tafarndai lleol yn aml yn rhan annatod o wead cymdeithasol ein cymunedau. Fodd bynnag, nid yw pawb yn gwybod pa mor bwysig ydyn nhw i’n heconomi leol. Amcangyfrifodd gwaith ymchwil a gomisiynwyd gan Gymdeithas Cwrw a Thafarndai Prydain fod 67 o dafarndai yn Aberconwy, sydd gyda’i gilydd yn talu £14.4m o gyflogau a £11.5m o drethi i gefnogi gwasanaethau cyhoeddus ac yn darparu 964 o swyddi, y mae bron hanner ohonynt yn cael eu llenwi gan bobl ifanc.

***Call for evidence // Cais am dystiolaeth***

This week I’ve been writing to residents from Deganwy and Llandudno Junction. Local people might remember that Network Rail closed the foot crossing at the bottom of Pentywyn Hill some years ago. Since then I’ve been working with Cllr. Mike Priestley to get the crossing reopened.

Yr wythnos hon, rydw i wedi bod yn ysgrifennu at drigolion o Ddeganwy a Chyffordd Llandudno. Efallai y bydd pobl leol yn cofio bod Network Rail wedi cau’r groesfan i gerddwyr ar waelod Pentywyn Hill rai blynyddoedd yn ôl. Ers hynny, rydw i wedi bod yn gweithio gyda’r Cynghorydd Mike Priestley i ailagor y groesfan.

Youth unemployment. // Diweithdra ymysg pobl ifanc.

Each month the independent Office for National Statistics releases labour market figures for the UK.  The latest figures show that youth unemployment has halved since 2010 and wages are growing at their fastest in nearly a decade.  Locally, youth unemployment has dropped by two thirds since Conservatives entered government in 2010 and almost a fifth since the beginning of 2018.

Bob mis, mae'r Swyddfa Ystadegau Gwladol annibynnol yn rhyddhau ffigyrau am y farchnad lafur ar gyfer y Deyrnas Unedig.  Mae'r ffigurau diweddaraf yn dangos bod diweithdra ymysg pobl ifanc wedi haneru ers 2010 ac mae cyflogau'n tyfu ar y gyfradd gyflymaf a welwyd ers bron i ddegawd.  Yn lleol, mae diweithdra ymysg pobl ifanc wedi gostwng dwy ran o dair ers i'r Ceidwadwyr ddod i rym yn y llywodraeth yn 2010, a bron i un rhan o bump ers dechrau 2018.

Vaccinate your ‘super spreaders’ against flu // Ewch ati i frechu eich plant yn erbyn y ffliw

Public Health Wales says it is especially important for children to have the flu vaccine as they are particularly good at passing germs and viruses between themselves and the adults they have contact with due to close proximity and generally poorer hygiene (such as hand washing and sneezing). This is why children are sometimes known as ‘super spreaders’.

Dywed Iechyd Cyhoeddus Cymru ei bod hi’n bwysig iawn i blant gael y brechlyn ffliw gan eu bod nhw’n dda iawn am drosglwyddo germau a firysau rhyngddyn nhw eu hunain ac oedolion maen nhw mewn cyswllt â nhw oherwydd agosrwydd a hylendid gwaeth yn gyffredinol (fel golchi dwylo a thisian). Dyma pam y gelwir plant weithiau yn ‘ledaenwyr gwych’.

***Important update from the Farmers’ Union of Wales.***

Farmers across Wales can breathe a sigh of relief as Environment and Rural Affairs Secretary Michael Gove, during the second reading of Agriculture Bill, said that agricultural funding will not be Barnettised, and the current settlement which allocates money to Wales on rural and agricultural criteria will be maintained.

Welsh Government prioritises South over North Wales in latest local government budget. // Llywodraeth Cymru yn blaenoriaethu De Cymru dros y Gogledd yn y gyllideb ddiweddaraf ar gyfer llywodraeth leol.

It’s disappointing that half of the local authorities in South Wales will avoid cuts to their Welsh Government funding at the expense of authorities throughout North and Mid Wales. Even more disappointing is that six of the nine Welsh councils controlled by the Labour Party have been spared cuts, whilst authorities led by Plaid Cymru, Independent and Conservative councillors appear to be disproportionately bearing the brunt of budget reductions.

Mae’n siomedig y bydd hanner yr awdurdodau lleol yn Ne Cymru yn osgoi toriadau i’w cyllid gan Lywodraeth Cymru ar draul awdurdodau ledled Gogledd a Chanolbarth Cymru. Mae’n fwy siomedig byth nad yw’r chwech allan o’r naw cyngor yng Nghymru sy'n cael eu rheoli gan y Blaid Lafur wedi wynebu toriadau o gwbl, tra bo’r awdurdodau sy’n cael eu harwain gan gynghorwyr Plaid Cymru, y Ceidwadwyr a chynghorwyr Annibynnol fel pe baent yn dwyn baich y gostyngiadau hyn yn y gyllideb mewn modd anghyfartal.

Are you registered to vote? // Ydych chi wedi cofrestru i bleidleisio?

Are you on the electoral roll? The next Parliamentary and local elections may not be expected until 2022, but the Assembly, Police and Crime Commissioner and by-elections held in the meantime are an important opportunity to make your voice heard - this year there’ve already been five local by-elections in Aberconwy.

Ydych chi ar y gofrestr etholiadol? Er nad ydym yn disgwyl i’r etholiadau lleol na’r etholiadau Seneddol nesaf gael eu cynnal tan 2022, mae etholiadau’r Cynulliad, Comisiynwyr Heddlu a Throseddu a’r is-etholiadau a gaiff eu cynnal yn y cyfamser yn gyfle pwysig i leisio eich barn - rydym eisoes wedi cael pum is-etholiad lleol eleni yn Aberconwy.

FUW urges farmers to stay vigilant. // Yr FUW yn annog ffermwyr i fod ar eu gwyliadwriaeth.

One of Wales’ farming unions, the FUW, is urging farmers to stay vigilant after blue tongue disease was detected in two cattle in Yorkshire.

Blue tongue affects cattle, sheep and other farm animals. It poses no health threat to humans and there is no food safety risk. However, it can damage farmer’s herds.

Mae un o undebau amaethyddol Cymru, yr FUW, yn annog ffermwyr i fod ar eu gwyliadwriaeth ar ôl i glefyd y tafod glas gael ei ganfod mewn dwy fuwch yn Swydd Efrog.

Mae clefyd y tafod glas yn effeithio ar wartheg, defaid ac anifeiliaid fferm eraill. Nid yw’n unrhyw fygythiad i iechyd pobl ac nid oes perygl o ran diogelwch bwyd. Fodd bynnag, gall wneud niwed i fuchesi ffermwyr.

What’s the future of money? // Beth yw dyfodol arian?

That’s the question the Bank of England and the Financial Times are asking secondary school and college students as part of their blogging competition.

Dyna’r cwestiwn mae Banc Lloegr a’r Financial Times yn ei ofyn i fyfyrwyr ysgolion uwchradd a cholegau fel rhan o’u cystadleuaeth blogio.

Great British Transport Competition. // Cystadleuaeth Trafnidiaeth Orau Prydain.

What would you do with £50 billion? £50 billion is the expected price tag for HS2 and the Taxpayers’ Alliance, who campaign for public spending to deliver value for money, are asking the British public how they’d like to see this money invested into transport infrastructure. They’ve launched the Great British Transport Competition and are appealing for individuals who can think of alternatives to HS2 to put their ideas forward.

Beth fyddech chi’n ei wneud gyda £50 biliwn? Mae disgwyl i’r prosiect HS2 gostio £50 biliwn ac mae Cynghrair y Trethdalwyr, sy'n ymgyrchu dros gael gwerth am arian o ran gwario cyhoeddus, yn gofyn i’r cyhoedd ym Mhrydain sut y bydden nhw am weld yr arian hwn yn cael ei fuddsoddi mewn seilwaith trafnidiaeth. Maen nhw wedi lansio Cystadleuaeth Trafnidiaeth Orau Prydain ac maen nhw’n gofyn i unigolion a all feddwl am syniadau gwahanol i HS2 gyflwyno’r syniadau hynny.
