13 years of health inequality and counting…

Commenting on the Chief Medical Officer’s Annual Report – which highlights persistent health inequality in Wales and sets out a number of recommendations to improve life expectancy and healthcare services – Shadow Minister for Health Darren Millar AM, said:

“Labour’s had 13 to tackle health inequalities in Wales – yet the sheer scale of the problem remains a national disgrace.

“Ten hare-brained public health schemes were recently branded completely ineffective by experts and it’s clear that Labour strategies simply aren’t working.

“Carwyn Jones has failed to get Wales out of a rut and his legacy of devastating NHS cuts has driven our health service to crisis point.

“European funding has been wasted, businesses are not being properly supported and deprivation is not being tackled head-on. Unless Labour gets to grips with the multitude of problems it has so far failed to solve, inequalities across Wales will persist.

“I urge the First Minister to carefully consider the Chief Medical Officer’s recommendations and tackle inequality once and for all.”
